Can anyone give me any technical information on the audio hardware of a Sun
Ultra 60?

I've recently needed to learn about digital signal processing (DSP) for
professional reasons and would like to try some audio experiments on my Ultra 60
using Matlab, Simulink and some Matlab toolboxes specifically for digital signal
processing. It would however be useful to know the characteristics of the audio
device used on the Ultra 60.

Several sources on the web, mainly devoted to GNU/Linux on SPARC, suggest the
Crystal Semiconductor CS4231 CODEC is used, but I'm unable to confirm this from
Sun's web site.

I'm also unable to find a data sheet, or even confirm such a device exists at
the Crystal Semiconductor (part of Cirrus Logic) website
http://www.crystal.com/
There are lots of similar sounding devices (CS4226, CS4299 etc) but a search of
the site returns nothing when CS4231 or 4231 is entered. Perhaps it is no longer
available new, but I would have thought Crystal Semiconductor would have data
sheets for discontinued products on their web site.

I will be running Matlab under Solaris, not GNU/Linux, but I'm copying this to
some GNU/Linux newsgroups as there seems to be some development of drivers under
GNU/Linux).
