I would appreciate some help with the following:
I have a Redhat 8 machine setup. From the first time I booted it after
installing redhat, I experienced a timeout of about 30 seconds at
login.
This happens when logging into Gnome, I can enter my user name and
password just fine but then the system seems to hang for 30s.
The same behaviour occurs when, once logged in, I try to 'su' to root.
The system asks again for password and then hangs for 30 seconds.
On the other hand when I start an application that needs root
priviliges, as the services gui does, I can enter the password and the
system does not hand.
Does anybody have any clues of where to start looking? I checked the
system logs but nothing suspicious shows up.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Wim
During installation and during setup of the network I entered
inadvertently an IP address for DNS server. I'm behind a proxy so
there is no DNS.
This setup, 'a wrong DNS server setting' results in de failures as
mentioned in previous message.
