rookie needs help!? appache authentication

hi people,
I am using SME server 5.6(its based on rethad 7.1) at home the box
runs as a web server-gateway, and I am connected to internet thourgh a
cable modem. And I have winxp as client... the problem is when I want
to connect a url (web page) that requirse login (username+pass)
altough my username and pass correct I cant
login.

ps0: I have connected the cable modem direct to the winxp box and it
worked!..
ps1: the server running appache as web server.
