now this i know...
your script needs a few minor changes:

#!/usr/bin/perl # notice the "!" after the "#"
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; # notice the "\n\n" ...that
represents two
# new lines, so that the server can
see
# the line between content and header
info.
print "<html>"; # all lines in perl have to have a
";" at the end
print "Anytinng";
print "</html>"; # and you have to close any quotes
you open
# and you don't need an exit command.

also, you may want to check the file on the server and make sure it's got
its permissions set to "755".

read this for more information:
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lperl3/

as well as this:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_alias.html#scriptalias

good luck!

Hello all.

I was used to access my Linux box throught x-win32 under windows, using
the xdmcp. And I was executing gdm in the Linux box. But now, I changed
the Linux box video cart to an old CGA card... So I cannot access X in
the Linux box. The gdm is not going up anymore. How can I execute gdm
or xdm only to be accessed by the net?

Thanks,

Reply-To: redha...@redhat.com

Hi Group,

I have just downloaded a new Linux kernel, with instructions on how to set
it up..

So far I have -

backed up the original /usr/src/linux-2.4.2-2 directory to linux-2.4.2-2-old
unpacked the new linux-2.4.9.tar.gz file
gone through the make config options
run a "make dep"
run a "make clean"
run a "make zImage"

and now I have ended up with a directory /usr/src/linux with loads of files
including the zImage, this must be the new compiled kernel.

this next bit is where im stumbling a little :)

I have gone into the /etc/lilo.conf, and im faced with this -

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
linear
default=Linux

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2
label=Linux
read-only
root=/dev/hda3

I presume the "image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2" refers to the old kernel in some
way, I have taken a look in the new /usr/src/linux directory and the closest
file I can find to this is -

vmlinux

would I replace with this ?

but other than this im a little lost

sorry - this whole thing may seem very vague.

Pete

Hello,

look in /boot for the image names
Also, don't forget to run lilo after editing lilo.conf

#ls /boot
#vi /etc/lilo.conf
#lilo
#shutdown -r now

However, as I understand it, it's not possible to use apt-rpm for _any_
RPMs yet, is it? In other words, you need to point it to a repository
that contains RPMs with the necessary apt metadata. Is this correct?
If it is correct, what happens then if I choose to install RPMs that do
_not_ have this metadata? Does it hose everything then? Anyone with
enough experience with apt-rpm who could answer these questions, please?

install them. all of the packages you need are here. i have been running
gnomehide for two or three weeks with no problems.

Not a single error. Well, my laptop does not have a good sound system,

Hey guys, I just found an issue with fortune under RH7.2

I included /usr/games/fortune in my .bashrc. Then I su to root to
compile xsysinfo with rpm --rebuild --targer i686, and then tried to
install the compiled RPM with rpm -Uvh.BUT, I got dependency error
messages with single words that made a quote... I removed fortune from
my .bashrc, rebuilt and installed the package, and problem was gone.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the clarification, Dave.
The problem we were having is the pop server would not start for some
reason, and we were not able to see why.
I'll do as you suggest.

Thanks to all who helped with suggestions on nohup and renice, by the way -
it was just what I wanted.

cheers,

Julian.

hello all:

after upgrading from rh 7.1 to rh 7.2, i have notice that i can no longer use
the <esc><esc> key sequence to have a file completion take place. does anyone
know what has changed and how i undo this?

another annoyance is fact that the cut and paste using the mouse buttons no
longer works while i am in kde apps. does anyone know how to cure this
irritation?

thanks in advance for any thoughts!

I looked up your IP address on http://www.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl
and it returned:

[snip]
Netname: COVAD-IP-2-NET
Netblock: 66.134.0.0 - 66.134.255.255
[...]
NS1.LASERLINK.NET 208.230.117.66
NS2.LASERLINK.NET 208.230.117.67
[...]
Reassignment information for this block of addresses can be found at
rwhois://rwhois.laserlink.net:4321/
[snip]

Since this is a commercial entity, and I very much doubt you are an employee but rather a customer
who has been assigned a 29-bit subnet block (8 static IP addresses, right?) as evidenced by your
netmask of 255.255.255.248. This would mean that your network address is 66.134.88.32, your
broadcast address is 66.134.88.39, and one of the IP addresses from 66.134.88.33 to 66.134.88.38
is your gateway. Usually, (in 3 of the 3 ISPs with which I have dealt for 29-bit subnets, being
Qwest and 2 local Tucson ISPs) in this configuration, the gateway is the next highest IP to the
broadcast address, which, in your case would be gateway=66.134.88.38.

Try that. If that doesn't work, go through sequentially and try them all in your block (the other
5 addresses for gateway, that is). For further assistance *only if* this is something like your
config *and* you have xDSL thru Covad or subsidiaries, could I help you further *if* you provide
the following:

To what is your network card connected? If it's a Cisco 6xx DSL router, I can definitely help.
There are tests you can do on the router, if that's what you have, to see if it's working.

However, this kind of help would be *MAJORLY OFF TOPIC* for this list, so please email me
privately at suns...@yahoo.com.
