Hello Ppls,
I am just about starting to learn linux ,i recently installed Red Hat
linux 8.0 in my machine, which has a ASUS motherboard, p4 and 256 MB
Ram.After installing i noticed that it is running very slow, i mean
applications take lot of memory.even when i am not running anytihng
the system monitor shows lot of memory usage.Is there anything wrong
with my installation ? or is it normal with linux ?can i do something
to improve my machines performance ?

It's probably your video card...did it say generic something or other
when installing? Your processor might be picking up slack for the video
card. Update your kernel and system and see if that helps. Also check
your manufacturer's website sometimes you get lucky and they have drivers
for Linux that aren't included.
