I installed redhat 8.0 and now I want for my own applications to include
a submenu in the application (gnome foot or K menu in kde) where i want
all my applications.
I want an automatic way so i can integrate it in the rpm %post script.
In redhat 7.x it was simple (just copying stuff in
/usr/share/gnome/apps/ - gnome and /usr/share/applnk/ - kde but now i
have problems. There is a need to manually edit /etc/X11/desktop-menus
(which is bad for automatic installations/deinstallations).
what am i asking if is there an automatic way to do this?
thank you

Okay, have you looked into the directory tree that contains (and models)
the menu tree?
It's /var/lib/menu/kde/Applications for KDE. Juat add your own folders and
items modeled after what is there.

(BTW. Are you aware of the consequences of adding stuff to the
/etc/X11/applnk directory; that seems to get hooked into the Extras menu
now)

However it doesn't go far enough. How about Gnome? How does it fit in with
/etc/X11/applnk and the gnome menu?
Actually I sort of knew about the KDE bit. I wonder how we are supposed to
know that today it's in the /var/lib/menu directory. Last time I asked on
the kde lists they were saying to use kdeconfig --prefix and the like, but
that doesn't seem to fit here.
I guess I'm onto something here with
http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/VFolderDesktops.txt.
(That's great; now we HAVE to use perl or something to do installation
scripts because we have to edit files on the fly.)
