./start: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2:
cannot
load shared object file: No such file or directory

It was a pre-compiled program that is supposed to work flawlessly on
RedHat6.0 I have 7.2, I get that message. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance of course as always

Kevin

It might be a pre-compiled program, but it's been compiled using dinamic
linking, which means, it still needs the different libraries in order to
run. So, install the necessary libraries and it will run :)

hello Kevin,

the easiest solution, but perhaps not the most elegant, is to look for a
library that is similar to the one you need, and then make a symbolic
link to that file:

1) find which library you have:
locate libstdc++-libc
you might perhaps find : /usr/local/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so

2) make a symbolic link:
cd /usr/local/lib
ln -s /usr/local/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so
libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2

this works for me on my system... the ideal solution is to recompile your
libc libraires yourself.

An easy alternative is perhaps just to look for the needed library on the
internet, for example at
http://www.megaloman.com/~hany/RPM/doors2.3/libstdc++-2.9.0-27.i386.html

hope this helps,
Danny.
