Hi,

I am not sure this relate to this group, apologize if not concerned to
this group.

I am trying to package my software in rpm. Not sure where should binary
and config files be installed on the linux.

I have seen most of the user software's in /usr/sbin and other /usr
directories. I have also seen user or thirparty software installed at
/usr/local or /opt/local or /opt/contrib folders.

Does any one has any strong view which is the best place where should my
bin, lib, config and other files be placed.

thanks,

jamil

Take a look at www.pathname.com/fhs/. It's the project of the 'Filesystem
Hierarchy Standard'. They built a standard every Linux distributor tries to
adapt. It's the de facto standard.
