If possible, please respond to feretio "at" yahoo "dot" com. Damn those
spambots!
I've been pounding on this problem for a while now to no avail. I have a
reiserfs on a 50G SCSI HD with errors that I can't seem to resolve.
I've tried running reiserfsck with -x, -o, and --check and various
combinations thereof (last time I ran --rebuild-tree on a reiserfs it
completely trashed the disk).
Unfortunately, I can't even copy the files off to another disk to redo the
file system. If I try using cp, I get:
cp: reading `a_campfire_song.mp3': Input/output error
and if I use tar, I get:
tar: 000/across_the_fields.mp3: File shrank by 7331215 bytes;
padding with zeros
Additionally, I get "permission denied" errors on random files when I run
du on the directories. If I remount it, I'll get the "permission denied"
on different files.
However, I can copy files onto this partition and if I NFS mount the
partition on another machine (it's a file server only storing mp3
files), I can play the mp3's completely with no errors, including the
ones that previously claimed "permission denied".
I've also been getting errors in the kernel/warnings log file, but I'm not
convinced that it's hardware related:
Feb 20 08:22:16 mp3 kernel: Current sd08:21: sense key Hardware Error
Feb 20 08:22:16 mp3 kernel: I/O error: dev 08:21, sector 11412048
Feb 20 08:22:16 mp3 kernel: SCSI disk error : host 0 channel 0 id 3 lun 0
return code = 8000002
Here's my configuration:
Tyan Trinity S1592 ATX motherboard
AMD 500MHz CPU
128M RAM
Western Digital 1.2G as master on onboard EIDE bus (/dev/hda)
Western Digital 80G as master on Promise ATA100 PCI card (/dev/hdc)
3 Seagate 50G wide SCSI on Adaptec 2940U2W PCI card (/dev/sda,sdb,sdc)
3com 3c905tx ethernet PCI card
Mandrake 8.1
kernel 2.4.8-26mdk
reiserfsprogs-3.x.0j-5mdk
Please let me know if any other info is required.
I'd try a newer kernel.
