Sorry for the
intrusion.
I am hoping that you
might be able to help me with a problem I have with my Linux-Mandrake
system.
In the linux.dev.ppp
newsgroup, you state:
"Second
192.68.xxx.xxx is a private IP range not a public one which is why you are
getting that message. You can use it on a local machine but not a remote one
or
only very unusually anyway. You probably want to find the proper remote
address
and substitute that."
I have a local
network using 192.168.1.xxx addresses. I am trying to enable my Linux server to
allow for dialup access, and I am getting the same message, probably for the
same reason.
How can I use my
linux box to allow dialup access to my local network? The IP address assigned to
the Linux box is 192.168.1.254, and the modem attached to ttyS1 should be
assigned the address 192.168.1.100.
Could you tell me
how this can be done? Do I really need to obtain a public IP address to allow
access to a private local network or am I missing something?
Your assistance
would be most appreciated as I have been trying to find an answer to this
problem for quite a while now, and the only response I have been able to find on
the internet is the one you gave which is quoted above.
I look forward to
hearing from you.
