Hi

I had problems installing my modem, and now i fixed that.
Now the problem is, modem is initialised and connected to server, but all
queries to news, http or mail servers respond with an error (can not find
server or something).
What can be a cause of that?

Could be that you've configured the script which connects to the
internet wrong...

what are you using to connect? I used to use wvdial with my 56k modem.
That was rather simple to set up and use. =)

Make sure you have checked the box that asks if you wish to use DNS
(Domain Name Server).

You can go on to check your connection by pinging and digging:

"ping 64.236.24.4" (which is cnn.com) at the command line and then

"dig cnn.com" which should return a blurb about cnn's connections which
will show your DNS is working for you (the AUTHORITY SECTION)

Be sure the appropriete ports are open. Generaly, those are ports that
is wise to keep closed be default. It will help reduce the chance your
machine will be compromised.

If you can't find out what port numbers they are, please let me know an
I will tell you what they are.
