I have just ordered my BT broad connection (G.dmt format) and I need to buy
a modem suitable for use with Red Hat 7.2, any recomendations.

Should have gone for NTL, they give you a cable modem and it works
perfectly with every Distro I tried before settling for Mandrake.

And no, you don't need NTL TV or an NTL phone line. I have neither and
they still fitted my 500Mb BB connection FOC.

Not everyone lives in an NTL area though.

Buy a network card, and then buy a ADSL modem for network cards,
possibly with web configuration.
USB modems are supported, but only Mandrake has a kernel prebuilt for
them, with other distros you must recompile your kernel, if you want to
use Mandrake you can use the Alcatel Speedtouch USB or a sagem USB
modem. Of course, you can do things the difficult way and recompile your
kernel, but it isn't easy. Note that USB modems are cheaper than network
card based ones.

I believe Gentoo has support for this, although I could be wrong...
