Greets all,

Bruce (kb6lwn) here. Just wondering if anyone is reading this group.
Been watching it for a couple weeks now, but not seeing any traffic.

Interests here are tcp/ip packet, and really looking forward to seeing
the ISS go into operation on packet.

The ISS is going to have paket. cool.

N9YGS here. I am on paket too. And have left a message on MIR.

I'm reading the NG. What little that comes along.

Glad to hear someone else is still using the lost art of paket.

I've just started reading this newsgroup.
Switched from AOL to a real ISP that supports newsfeeds (in a reasonable
manner).

I'm getting my home QTH built now and plan to get on the air with the digital
modes.

Hey, Brian (Kd5anf) here ... I also have an eye in this newsgroup.
I'm fairly new to any digital modes and have never tried to set it up
with the linux box ... yet. Was hoping to read conversations in here
and get some good information.

Hi Brian... <chuckle> If you're still here :)

I got your message forwarded to me from someone
else, and didn't know HOW it took that path.
Now that I see that my email client (pine) stuck
the ampr.org address on it - I figure that might
be the reason, although afaik I should be the
only one with that domain name (gtgs.ampr.org)
and I don't even think it's in the host list.
Just something I use here on the LAN.

I'll tell ya' not a week goes by that I don't
discover some new function of Linux :) Tonight
as you might notice - it was the 'roles' setting
in pine... Nice feature. Always wondered HOW
it was done. :-/

My 1270C tnc took a dump a couple weeks ago
(the circuit at the 12vdc conn looks like a short)
so the only thing I have running now is the 1278
in the shack on 10m HF (1200 on 28.295 every 5min).
Give a listen if you have the gear and see if you
can get on my heard list :) I'm in the NE of CM88.

I just sent off payment for some gear I got at auction
(I'm starting to get into the MilComm freykus) and can
hardly wait til my 27-39 Mc FM (R-109/GRC) unit arrives!

Don't have much news or comments on the Linux/Ham front
as the TNC going TU has brought that project to a halt
for the time-being. Mostly just using Linux on the LAN
to access eMail, browse (lynx), and so forth. A friend
of mine a bit further up the mtn from me has just come
into inheiritance of a second computer (pent I think)
and mentioned to me via LL the other day that he intends
to install the LNX version of JNOS on it soon. I asked
him why he didn't just use a compiled AX25 kernel and
the normal tools (telnet, ftp, etc), but he says he wants
the box to be able to do other chores as well. I guess
with over 18 Gb of HDD, he can afford to use a bit extra
space. I just got my FIRST 'over 1 Gb' HDD this last
month (a Quantum Fireball 1.28 Gb SCSI) and I absolutely
don't know WHAT to do with all that room :>> Hi Hi

Anyway.. Enough rambling for this post.
Can't believe we're the only two out here reading this NG.

available. Only way to go. Been having probs getting stable 56k going
tho. Using Paccomm's spirit2 PAD, 56k modem and DEMI 219-30S
transverters. Works fine for about 15mins then starts to degrade to pkt
errors.
Finally quits altogether. Had Gwyn Reedy@paccomm bench test all units
and they worked perfectly for him,
for over 1 wk. Beats me. Still messing with it off and on.
I have a bunch of 9600 going since '91. 145.71, 433.43, 51.16 and 1200
on 145.75 (all tcp/ip). Also have
a tcp/ip-ax25 router on 9600 on a hilltop in the SF eastbay. Using
Motorola Mitreks and paccomm spirit-2's.
Never had a problem with any of those.
I hope this NG gets a little more productive... I think there are some
others also, but I can't remember where I
saw them.

Later,

Tim Kirkpatrick, k6tpk
