I bought a used Dell Latitude D531 laptop on eBay.  I installed Debian to it.  I'm getting this error everytime on boot, and waking up out of suspend mode.  I would like to know how to fix or troubleshoot the problem.

Output of "dmesg |grep MTRR":
[    0.000000] [Firmware Warn]: MTRR: CPU 0: SYSCFG[MtrrFixDramModEn] not cleared by BIOS, clearing this bit
[    0.000000] MTRR default type: uncachable
[    0.000000] MTRR fixed ranges enabled:
[    0.000000] MTRR variable ranges enabled:
[    0.068000] [Firmware Warn]: MTRR: CPU 0: SYSCFG[MtrrFixDramModEn] not cleared by BIOS, clearing this bit
[    0.156611] [Firmware Warn]: MTRR: CPU 1: SYSCFG[MtrrFixDramModEn] not cleared by BIOS, clearing this bit
[    0.169782] mtrr: your CPUs had inconsistent variable MTRR settings
[    0.169787] mtrr: probably your BIOS does not setup all CPUs.
[    0.169789] mtrr: corrected configuration.

Those aren't errors but warnings. You're being warned (i.e. told)
that something was odd, but has been corrected. To avoid the issue, best
advice seems to be add nomtrr to the kernel boot parameters.

As an aside; Of the hits I got searching for this, several mentioned
Dell machines, the remainder named no brand at all. It's possible that
this issue only affects Dells, and is a bug in their BIOS.

Two possible solutions:

a) Update the BIOS

b) ignore
