I got a Kobo Arc that runs Android 4.0.4 and would like to become su for this
device. There are paid services but I don't like the sound of them and they're
expensive. Since Android is Debian several times removed, I was wondering if anyone
here had a script that might help?

I use Calibre with the Arc for moving books around but Calibre is useless with the
Adobe DRM menace and most of my books require this.

There's no mention of the Kobo at the Debian Mobile wiki page:
http://wiki.debian.org/Mobile

However, stuff there might be helpful to you.

I don't buy any DRM-encumbered books. This does limit me but I find that
Tor, O'Reilly, Smashwords, Baen, etc. supply enough reading matter.

I plan to install Debian on my Asus Tranformer Pad Prime (TF701) soon, but
not in the next week. I will write up a HOWTO at the same time.

Carl,

I would be interested in your experience as I have an ASUS Slider, and
would like to do the
same thing. Perhaps if you do not post your HOWTO to the list, you
would let me know how it goes.

Thank you.

I run Android 4.0.3 on my HP Touchpad (courtesy cyanogenmod) and it
includes a terminal app. This app opens a terminal with a user prompt
but upon entering su it switches to a root prompt.

Go to xda.com and seek there!

Hi, not answering your specific question, but

Are you only interested in rooting it in order to solve the second problem? In
which case I can't see *how* it solves the second problem. I guess you need to
strip the Adobe DRM, which if possible, could be done from a desktop machine,
after which your ebook reader on a non-rooted device would be fine.

As David said, XDA Developers is the place to go for Android.
Android uses the Linux Kernel, but that is about it. It is not really
anymore closely related to Debian than to Fedora or Slackware.

Some days ago I visited this site, there was just a list with some
devices, most of them mobiles and the side itself does use tons of
trackers.

Have you actually looked at this site and followed one of the links
marked "root"? It takes you to a list of horticultural sites.
