testing, rhythmbox err msg "Failed to open output device: Unable to prepare device"

help! :)

completely up to date on Debian testing.

i'm not a sound guru, rhythmbox has not been working
for a while with the error message:

Failed to open output device: Unable to prepare device

vlc, firefox, games, all play things without errors.

i do not have pulse audio installed, (running MATE
desktop) other than a few bits which seem to be
required...

any ideas? i've tried other versions going back but
it seems to not make any difference now.

futzed around with that and seems to be working.
not sure i like having to add yet more stuff, but
if that is how it needs to be then...

Most likely a problem with Gstreamer, is gstreamer1.0-alsa installed?

thanks! it wasn't. it is now. :)

i would have to take all the pulse stuff back out
to check if that was the problem. since i've got
rhythmbox working again for now i'll leave it alone,
but will keep this in mind if i see the error message
again.

pulseaudio was too noisy, took it out again, left
gstreamer alone. things now work like before with
alsa.
