Já tentou reinstalar o XAMPP?
Ou iniciar o serviço via terminal?

Sim.

 ./xampp start
Starting XAMPP for Linux 5.5.37-0...
XAMPP: Starting Apache...fail.
XAMPP:  Another web server is already running.
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...already running.
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...already running.

Você está com outro servidor http rodando, descubra qual e pare este serviço e depois tente novamente rodar seu script.

# netstat | grep :80

E veja o que já está sendo executado na porta 80, pare e inicie a instância do apache que você deseja.
