I just got my 2.2.17(Potato) cd's but am having problems with X. I've
installed on a Stock G4 and on a scsi disk. Using the stock Kernel, the X
Server crashes immediately after the startx command, sometimes complaining
about "Mouse". So I tried the instructions about the new input layer on
http://www.ppclinux.apple.com/~benh/, but they didn't help. I then tried the
updated system.map.2.2.17pre20-ben3, kernel, and modules on the same page. I
got a little further (to a Debian splash screen), but that was all and with
a useless mouse pointer.
The base system appears to be set up correctly otherwise. Seems as if
everyting is pretty normal when I do a dmesg.
I'm running MacOS, Yellow Dog Linux, and SusePPC on ide. Bootsrap and OF
have all been set up for booting directly into Debian on scsi.
Appreciate any ideas as I am anxious to see for myself why so many say that
debian is the best distro for PPC.
