Hi,

I am using woody on a PowerBook G3 1999.
Yesterday I updated X11 and enlightenment.
Today I am having problems with the video;
the image, both text and graphics, is out
of focus. Under MacOS is fine, so it is
not an hardware problem. What about you?

... I forgot to mention that the version is 3.3.6-11.
I would like to know something about version 4. It is
not on packages yet. How are things going there?

Can you define 'out of focus' more precisely please?

The latest phase2 test packages work great on my PowerPC box. If you want
to help test XFree 4 on Debian/PPC, you can apt-get the packages from:

deb http://samosa.debian.org/%7Ebranden/ woody/powerpc/

These are for testing only, so don't expect them to be stable or even
functional. Don't file bugs or build packages against them. Be ready to
help track down any problems you find. Feedback should go to the debian-x
mailing list.

Read the debian-x list archives for more information, especially the
latest status report from the maintainer:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-x-0010/msg00006.html

I've heard Branden make noises about 4.01 experimental packages(*), maybe
you should check those?

(*): On this list, no less.

Hi,

X11 may not be the cause. As I reported, the problem
occurs also in pure text mode, so it may just be the
linux kernel or BootX. I remember updating to BootX
1.2.2 in the same timespan, as well as to kernel
2.2.17. The problem appeared with the frequency
set to 63 (BootX setting). In the afternoon, with
frequency set to 70, it was all OK. Please remember
that I am using a PowerBook G3 1999.

It is like when superimposing the text to its photocopy
on lucid paper; if the text is not allined, you can not
read it. You see two equal images that are very close to
each other.

As you've discovered yourself by now, this is caused by setting mclk too
low.
