I have a Blade 2500 with an XVR-1200 card in the system
I have d/l and installed Squeeze (6.0) and after some "entertainment"
with regards to the MD devices, and delay on "wait for root" -I have the
system up and running....
However - not one that has a GUI.
The Framebuffer appears to work when in console mode, no corruption or
glitches, however, on starting X - whole host of corruption, and a
basically unusable display.
I've found some details from goolge'ing, and looking around the
archives, but I can't match my scenario to any of them - most of the
details I've found relate to problems even at the console/cmd line
level, and not at the GUI.
The one thing that I did check was that I had the package
xserver-xorg-ffb installed, and I do.
Any pointers to get this card working for X would be appreciated...
TIA.

the kernel in Squeeze has no support for that graphic card, you need a
newer one, i'm running a XVR-1000 with 2.6.39-bpo.2-sparc64-smp. You
find that kernel at debian backports:

My knowledge of the situation with various sparc cards support by X is
summarized in the following posts:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2011/02/msg00019.html

I'm not certain what the XVR-1000 card actually is, but if you have a
working X environment with it, please post your xorg.conf and the
output of lsmod.

Output of 'prtconf -pv | grep screen:' would be useful as well. On my
system this prints:
screen: '/pci@8,700000/SUNW,Expert3D-Lite@3'
And as far as I know, Expert3D cards are not supported, but I'm going
to try it with the newer kernel now.

There is no xorg.conf! I have to dump one with X -configure, but can't
do it while writing this email with evolution.

Cool, thanks for providing this information. It turns out that this
driver (sunxvr1000.c) was added in March 2010, so I was not aware of
its existence. Glad to hear it works.
In related news, I tried to run Xorg from wheezy on my machine and the
card (which uses e3d framebuffer from sunxvr500.c) appears to be much
more functional in X than it was last time I tried. The colors are all
wrong, and there are vertical black stripes crossing the screen, but
at least I can open a terminal window, etc. I'm going to see whether I
can tweak the framebuffer driver to improve the situation.
Best regards,

Some time ago in August 2010 there was a discussion about "e3d" between
David Miller, Josip Rodin and Howard Eisenberger. You can find the mails
in the archive, maybe you get some helpful informations there.

So I have installed the newer backported kernel...
Console is as before, lovely and working, just that X is corrupted -
blocky etc..
And follows the output of the various commands kind people have
supplied..
Anyone know if an XVR-100 would "just work" ? :-)
