I am interested in purchasing the Archos 5 internet tablet for running
Debian. Does anyone here have any experience with the Archos 5 IT?

I have a Nokia N810 and am disgusted with it. I am interested in a device
that will actually run Debian, preferably with a mainline linux kernel.

Supposedly the "5IT" is an Archos "gen7" device. Some links:

Thanks

the openaos.org guys appear to be up to version 8, so you stand a good
chance that 7 is supported. personally i'd recommend you begin with
getting multiboot operational, then install angstrom linux, _then_
work your way towards debian after you've proved that that works.

Some people are currently jailed or imprisoned in violation of their
rights. Prison systems around the world are riddled with imperfections.

In these cases, "jailbreak" is an eminently reasonable way to describe
the act of regaining rights which have been denied.

While it may be hyperbole to compare a locked-out communication device
to unjust imprisonment, the analogy isn't particularly unfounded.

Also, can we refrain from calling people morons (or f******g morons) on
this list? It's nice to be civil if you can be.
