Hi,

I have two Thecus N2100 Bricked and make a call for some help !

I have soldered a RS232 on the SATA Board, as explained here and [1] on
my wiki [2].

With the serial console I have one of the Thecus that only show a + at Boot.

The other one hang at booting debian kernel :

RedBoot> exec -c "console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/ram0 initrd=0xa0800000,42M"
Build ATAG
ATAG_MEM: Overwrite ram_end with real_region_top=0x20000000, memsize=512 M
ATAG_MEM=536870912@0xa0000000, MACH_TYPE=1101
Using base address 0x00200000 and length 0x00160000

Is there any method to get the kernel and initrd from TFTP and reflash
them into RedBoot ?

Where can I get the kernel and initrd ?

Is there any rescue method for Debian without bricking ?

Amicalement,

Sure, the commands are listed at
http://cyrius.com/debian/iop/n2100/telnet.html
You can type these on the serial console.

> Where can I get the kernel and initrd ?

You can use the kernel and initrd of the Debian installer listed at
http://cyrius.com/debian/iop/n2100/install.html to boot into the
Debian installer. Then you can access the hard drive and re-flash the
kernel/ramdisk from the system. See
http://www.cyrius.com/journal/debian/installer-flash-kernel

IIRC I saw that when I had a bad ram DIMM installed. So it could be that some
of your hardware components has got loose/dusty.

See the commands listed here:

http://www.cyrius.com/debian/iop/n2100/telnet.html

Debian-installer kernel and ramdisk should be good:

http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-armel/current/images/iop32x/network-console/

I have update my wiki page, for this rescue procedure [1].

I will give a try, but I think I may have bricked the RedBoot.
Is there a serial RedBoot rescue mode possible, like in UBoot [2] ?

Is there any technicals references or tools for booting RedBoot by serial ?

Note if you believe that redboot is bricked, any rescue mode *in* redboot wouldn't
help. What you describe in your uBoot link is not a uBoot feature, but a kirkwood
SoC feature.

N2100 comes with intel iop321 SoC, and I dont remember if it has a serial boot
mode. If it has, it can be discovered from the Intel Technial reference manuals[1].

If IOP doesn't come with a serial boot feature, you will essentially need
JTAG access. Or alternatively desolder the flash chip and flash it with separe
flasher board.

I have found this in "Intel(R) IQ80321 Evaluation Platform Board Manual"
( § 2.5.1 - page 21 ) [1]

N2100 come with intel iop 80219 [1] and technical reference manuals
available [2] Same SOC as SS400-E [3]

Is there any possible trap with GDB by serial (UART) ?

If so, is any one can point me to a good tutorial ?

I do not find any still valid reference or mirror download for Firmware
Recovery Unit (FRU) procedure or Technical about the IOP.

Thanks,
