How to view audio CD in Dolphin/Konqueror?

Since installing wheezy (which replaced Kubuntu) on my main desktop machine, I
have been unable to access CDs properly.

Whenever I insert an audio CD, I am presented with a list of possible actions.

The first of these is "open with file manager". But when I select this option,
Dolphin starts with the address "audiocd:/%3Fdevice=/dev/sr0" and the message
"Could not read".

If I select the other options (which are to do with VLC and k3b) the other
programs start and access the CD perfectly.

What do I need to do to have dolphin (or konqueror, which I prefer) open the
CD correctly?

(If I execute the command 'dolphin "audiocd:/%3Fdevice=/dev/sr0"' from the
command line, the same thing happens; no error messages appear.)

Hi Doc,
Do you have kdemultimedia-kio-plugins or in Jessie/Sid kio-audiocd installed?

I think there is supposed to be an error message when it is missing, but well…

Last time I tried this it worked for me.

Probably kio-audiocd.

As best I can make out, that's actually part of kde-multimedia-kio-plugins,
and that's already installed.

Yes, kdemultimedia-kio-plugins is installed.

Is there somewhere I can look for some kind of error message that might be
more informative than the simple "could not read" (which doesn't immediately
make a lot of sense to me, since VLC and k3b can read the CD just fine; maybe
"audiocd:/%3Fdevice=/dev/sr0" isn't the right pseudo-address for
dolphin/konqueror to access the CD, but that's what comes up when I click
"open with file manager").

Try kdebugdialog and look on console or in ~/.xsession-errors

I selected all the items that contained the string "audio". This was the list:
7117 kio_audiocd
60002 kaudiocreator
kio_audiocd

Then when I executed 'konqueror "audiocd:/%3Fdevice=/dev/sr0"' from the
command line, I saw plenty of errors, but all related to QPainter not being
active. Nothing seemed to be related to trying (and failing) to access or read
the CD.

Perhaps I'm not using kdebugdialog correctly (although I think it's probably
close enough); the help manual is not a model of clarity.

I´d enable everything just in case.

If it doesn´t show something, well… no idea.

Hi,
This text is from the audiocd-io source code:

"Unknown error. If you have a cd in the drive try running cdparanoia -vsQ as
yourself (not root). Do you see a track list? If not, make sure you have
permission to access the CD device. If you are using SCSI emulation (possible
if you have an IDE CD writer) then make sure you check that you have read and
write permissions on the generic SCSI device, which is probably /dev/sg0,
/dev/sg1, etc.. If it still does not work, try typing
audiocd:/?device=/dev/sg0 (or similar) to tell kio_audiocd which device your
CD-ROM is."

Maybe it helps.

Cheers,
André

The relevant part of the output seems to be:

> dolphin(26575)/kio (Slave) KIO::Slave::createSlave: createSlave "audiocd" for KUrl("audiocd:/%3Fdevice=/dev/sr0")

That doesn't seem to have any obvious errors.

Yes, I see a track list. (Just as I do with k3b):

Well, that looks like what appears in the address bar; so konqueror/dolphin is
definitely being told the correct drive (which I think we knew anyway, since
the other actions in the list (k3b and VLC) both access the drive correctly).

FWIW, before I installed wheezy on this system I was running Kubuntu, and that
didn't have this problem.

I still have made no progress with this issue.

Is there some other mail reflector that might be a more appropriate place to
ask for help, or does anyone here have more suggestions?

Did you deleted the old configuration files of kde in your /home?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're asking.

I haven't deleted any configuration files; but I don't know what you mean by
"old", nor which of the many KDE configuration files you think I should delete.
