Hello all:

I've adopted wmaker-data which was Orphaned, and adapted it to actual Policy. It's in mentors.debian.net but it seems that nobody wants to upload it.

Can somebody upload it and help me a (very little bit) to make next version lintian-clean and updated?

Regards

You have posted here yesterday about it. This is not uncommon to wait a
week or several weeks. People are quite busy and checking a package can
take quite some time. Please, be more patient.

Hi Noel,

IANADL but here's some feedback:

- you've built it as a native package when instead it should be a non-native
one (see sect 5.4. in the developer's reference and sect 2.4. in the new
maintainer's guide); your additions/changes should instead be in a separate
.diff.gz
- the short description should start with a lower-case letter
- in debian/copyright after "this package was debianized by
[...]", add "and is currently maintained by <your name and email here>"
- in debian/changelog, s/to fill actual Policy requirements/to comply with Policy/
- there's a stale debian/debhelper.log

Cheers,
Serafeim

ps. these are pretty basic mistakes; consider at least skimming through the
cited docs

For more guidance on writing the package synopsis, see
<URL:http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-best-pkging-practices#s-bpp-pkg-synopsis>.

Even better, write the 'debian/copyright' file in accordance with
<URL:http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat> to make it
machine-parseable. It's not official but it's still a good idea.

Seconded.

I'm not impressed.

$ lintian wmaker-data_0.8-2.1.dsc
W: wmaker-data source: debian-rules-sets-DH_COMPAT line 8
W: wmaker-data source: package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version 3
W: wmaker-data source: ancient-standards-version 3.5.4 (current is 3.8.0)
W: wmaker-data source: native-package-with-dash-version

The binary package also has:

E: wmaker-data: copyright-should-refer-to-common-license-file-for-gpl
W: wmaker-data: description-synopsis-might-not-be-phrased-properly
W: wmaker-data: debian-changelog-file-contains-obsolete-user-emacs-settings

Those are all pretty trivial to fix, too.

regards,
Holger

HL> I'm not impressed.

HL> $ lintian wmaker-data_0.8-2.1.dsc
uploaded version contains only one warning:

$ lintian -so wmaker-data_0.8-3_i386.changes
W: wmaker-data source: native-package-with-dash-version

for adopt-upload, it is normally, I think :)

Why? I don't understand relation with adopt-upload. wmaker-data isn't a
native-package, so it should have an .orig.tar.gz

I'm not impressed: I checked the version in etch.

You're right, sorry.

Sorry. I saw several very fast answers so I supposed all was going fast and I was left behind.

The package on which I based had the same problem. I noticed it and make it clear in my comentary on mentors.debian.net
It had other lintian warnings and I fixed them all (as Dmitry E. Oboukhov noted).
I want to fix this for the new release, but _that_ is why I want some help from this list (besides the upload). I do not know which of the two options to choose:
a) Create a non-native package incuding a orig.tar.gz
b) Create a native package changing the version numbering
The problem is that the package I adopted used a non-native numbering without a orig.tar.gz and thought it was not right to change it too much for an adoption upload.

> - the short description should start with a lower-case letter

Fixed for next release

Thanks, I didn't think I was worth so much credit. Fixed for next release

Thanks for the tip. Can't fix since it has been uploaded. I'm very sorry.

> - there's a stale debian/debhelper.log

Fixed for next release. It probably was a remaining from the original build system.

I've readed them completely, but it is not the same than using them regularly. I hope I will be better from now on, with your help.

Thanks again
