libaec-dev has recently entered sid (and testing/backports). It is a free implementation
of the SZLIB compression library, and provides a drop-in replacement for the libsz library
used in HDF5, particularly for climate and weather data.

There is not a lot I can do in the _R_ package hdf5 (with source and binary
package r-cran-hdf5 within Debian, see [1] for both) which simply
(build-)depends on libhdf5-dev/

Did you mean to file this against libhdf5-dev [2]? Shall we reassign this?

Dirk

Erm... This is already assigned to the source package for libhdf5-dev, aka hdf5 [3].
The source package for r-cran-hdf5 is... r-cran-hdf5, not hdf5 [4].

Which part of what I wrote in

_R_ package hdf5 (with source and binary package r-cran-hdf5 within
Debian, see [1] for both)

was unclear? We both say the same thing here.

But if the issue is question is assigned to the actual HDF5 library package,
then we can simply close this.

Then I must admit I just don't understand what you're initial question
is about :/ Would you mind elaborating?

The bug report should never have gotten to me given source:hdf5; but all is
taken care of as it has long been forwarded to the correct package --
possibly by you so a quick Thanks! from here.
