Package: media-types
Version: 4.0.0
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

JPEG XL is in its final standardization steps (FDIS ballot has been initiated - no more technical changes are possible, i.e. JPEG XL files produced today will be decodable in the future), and it is starting to get adoption (support in Google Chrome was implemented behind a flag, and other packages have added support, i.e. imagemagick).

The mime type for JPEG XL has been registered with IANA, but the registration is currently provisional waiting for the standard to be officially published (this will likely happen in another 5 to 6 months). However, as the format is starting to be used, it would be beneficial to already include image/jxl in mime.types.

Would that be possible?

Hi Luc,

thanks for your bug report and your direct emmail sent a couple of days
ago. After receiving it I had already answered you that I added the
media type, but that it will take effect after the release. I hope
that my message did not get filtered (my mail server is on the Amazon
cloud...).

Have a nice day,

Charles

Hi Mathieu,

I checked on the ISO website and 3 parts out of 4 of the standard are
still reported to be in development, maybe that is the reason.

I see that many image/jx* have been registered to the IANA by
sc29-sec&itscj.ipsj.or.jp; maybe you can ask that person if they have
a plan to do so for JPEG XL ?

Have a nice week-end,
