Package: inetutils-ping
Version: 2:2.4-1
Severity: normal
Tags: ipv6 upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc: mo...@posteo.de

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

Sending ICMPv6 echo request to an address where the router replies with ICMPv6 destination unreachable - Reject route to destination. That is Type 1 code 6.
Defined in RFC4443: ftp://rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc4443.html
The message is:

m@ryz:~$ ping6 fd00:acd::4 -c 1
PING fd00:acd::4 (fd00:acd::4): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from fd00:abcd::1: Destination unreachable: Unknown code 6
--- fd00:acd::4 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
m@ryz:~$

This should be a proper message like "Route to destination rejected by <IP from router>".

Hi,

thanks for fixing this in the Debian package.

You might consider my (basically identical) upstream patch:

https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/inetutils.git/commit/?id=c2cfa7889c09b6bd1ef7bc9967111e6509e610c7

Cheers,
Enrik

Hi!
Sorry, I guess the pending bug notification was confusing. I had
written the patch, then noticed yours upstream and replaced it with
commit:

https://git.hadrons.org/cgit/debian/pkgs/inetutils.git/commit/?id=bc000d86eafd41abb1014b7cfa4be03b84554509

So the uploaded version already contains your patch (sans the NEWS
entry as that was conflicting). :)

Thanks,
Guillem

Ah, ok, never mind, my bad then; I didn't check the actual commits.

Thanks,
Enrik
