Package: mailman3-web
Version: 0+20200530-2.1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I just made the upgrade from bullseye to bookworm. mailman3 was up and running before, but the upgrade failed at the point mailman3-full and mailman3-web where supposed to be configured by dpkg. dpkg --configure mailman3-web gives these mostly hyperkitty-related errors:

mailman3-web (0+20200530-2.1) wird eingerichtet ...
Determining localhost credentials from /etc/mysql/debian.cnf: succeeded.
dbconfig-common: writing config to /etc/dbconfig-common/mailman3-web.conf

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/django_q/conf.py:139: UserWarning: Retry and timeout are misconfigured. Set retry larger than timeout,
failure to do so will cause the tasks to be retriggered before completion.

I tried everything that came to mind to fix this. 'apt install -f' didn't bring any changes, as did 'dpkg --configure -a' 'apt install --reinstall mailamn3-full mailman3-web' or removing both packages and installing them again. In another bugreport about bad upgrade to bookworm I came across 'mailman-web migrate' which resulted in these messages:

Right now, mailman3 itself is working, just the web interface won't.

Just upgraded from bullseye to bookworm and getting the same errors.

I fixed the "primary key type" warning by inserting this option:

DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD='django.db.models.AutoField'

at the bottom of /usr/share/mailman3-web/settings.py

Now I'm stuck with the "timeout larger than retry": being a
python/django noob I can't figure where to find the settings file where
to edit those values...

I don't know why your mailman3-web was broken, anyway I can fix the problem with the following steps:

* add config to /etc/mailman3/mailman-web.py

```
DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD = 'django.db.models.BigAutoField'
Q_CLUSTER = {
    'timeout': 300,
    'retry': 600,
    'save_limit': 100,
    'orm': 'default',
    'poll': 5,
}
```

* make django migration

```
sudo -u www-data /usr/share/mailman3-web/manage.py makemigrations
sudo -u www-data /usr/share/mailman3-web/manage.py migrate
```

to enable DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD config

* restart service

```
sudo service mailman3 restart
sudo service mailman3-web restart
```

to enable Q_CLUSTER  config

Right now, both mailman3-full and mailman3-web can't be configured, so every time apt runs, it also tries to fix them. While mailman3 itself is working, mailman3-web is completely dead.

0003_auto_20230813_0944.py doesn't exist, the migrate directory is owned by root. But afaik this is supposed to be the case. So I'm not sure what's the problem.

Nevermind, executing manage.py as root did solve the error. The question only is if that means some permissions are off. Any way to check that?

But in the end, doing as you explained didn't change anything. Basically the same errors are still present:

The steps fixed my problem.

I only had to:
- install sudo (my debian installation was a minimal netinstall,
without that package)
- chown -R www-data /usr/share/mailman3-web

I had also to add a mail address to my admin profile and set it to
preferred (I only had root@mydomain as address).

Thnakyou!

With this I was finally able to fix my problem too. Both times the manage.py script went through, but I had to make some aditional changes:
as I've replaced the mailman3-web systemd unit with an ini for the uwsgi emperor, which runs mailman3-web with list:list, I've owned the mailman-web.py in /etc by list:www-data. Afterwards the website would load again, but only work partially. It turns out it coudln't find "/var/lib/mailman3/web/static/postorius/libs/bootstrap/js/bootstrap.min.js.map". I fixed it by removing the postorius directory (better: rename it) and create a symbolic link to /usr/share/python3-django-postorius/static/postorius (and of course changing ownership). Now it works, case closed from my side.

hi maintainers,

1053502 and 1041496 appear to be the same mailman3-web update bug.
My guess is that they should be merged, but I'm still extremely new to mailman3,
so better that someone who understands the package sends the merge command.

Some hints that overlap hacks discussed at 1041496 are at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mailman-suite/+bug/2038732

Cheers
