Package: libegl-mesa0
Version: 21.2.1-2
Severity: serious
Justification: unknow
X-Debbugs-Cc: tarja...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

After upgraded libegl-mesa0 libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0 libllvm11 to 21.2.1-2, I have artifacts with firefox-esr. For example, with right click on a tab, I can see artifact.
For the moment, I have not seen any problem with other software.

If I downgrade to 20.3.5-1, the problem is no longer present.

I use Intel graphic card (UHD Graphics 630), lightdm and i3.
On another system, nvidia card is used, 21.2.1-2 has no problems. (lightdm and i3 are also used)

I think it is related to mesa but I am not sure.
Am I the only one in this case?

Thanks

GLX is still the default for firefox-esr. EGL is a non-default
configuration.

Please report this bug to
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?format=__default__&blocked=1491303&product=Core&component=Graphics%3A%20WebRender

and attach a screenshot. Thanks!

I was not able to reproduce this bug with firefox-esr and Firefox Nightly
with Basic (software rendering), WebRender (GLX=default) and
MOZ_X11_EGL=1 WebRender
on Debian Testing
with libegl-mesa0 libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0
installed from unstable
(Mesa 21.2.1 on Intel Iris Graphics 6100 (BDW GT3)).

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.
I didn't know graphic rendering specificities of firefox. Thank you
for the information.

I opened the bug on libegl-mesa0 because it was the first packet of
dependencies list.
I using 21.2.1-2 version to try to provide more information for this bug.

To reproduce the issue with firefox :
- right click on tab and use mouse to fly over tab menu.
or
- open a web site and browse it down/up

On my setup, Firefox seems using basic (software rendering) mode by default.
With this basic mode, the issue is present with right click tab and
web site browsing

I tried to use firefox with Webrender (MOZ_WEBRENDER=1 firefox),
right click artifacts are still present, but web browsing doesn't
display artifact.

When using EGL by MOZ_X11_EGL=1 firefox not working, Basic mode is still used

Current mode is checked by about:support and
Graphics/Features/Compositing value.

I tried to provide a capture of the issue by using screen video
recorder "simplescreenrecorder" and when I play the video I cannot see
artifact on the video.
When using remote desktop by VNC, artifact are not present.

This bug couldn't be related between libraries and hardware ?

I found newer application with artifact : VLC, simplescreenrecorder

I'm having this issue on Debian testing as well, after an upgrade of
Mesa packages from 20.3.5-1 to 21.2.4-1.
The problem disappears after downgrading to version 20.3.5-1 of the
packages and rebooting (packages in my case: libegl-mesa0
libegl1-mesa-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa
libglx-mesa0 mesa-va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers
libgbm1 libgbm-de).

Testing with versions in between from snapshot.debian.org reveals that
it's still OK with 21.1.6-1 and the issue starts with 21.2.0-1.

Other related reports that look like they might be about the same
problem, all related to Mesa 21.2 (I'm seeing artifacts in Firefox and
in Konsole as described, as well as in other applications):

I observe the same problem, although only with similar but not identical
hardware

Here is my (shortened) 'hwinfo' output:

24: PCI 02.0: 0300 VGA compatible controller (VGA)
Device Name: "Onboard IGD"
Model: "Intel HD Graphics 530"
Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation"

Driver Modules: "i915"

I tested the Mesa upstream version from https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/
mesa/-/tree/main and can confirm the broken version there, too.

However: I didn't get any artifacts with mesa-21.3.0-rc4. I didn't bisect that
as mesa-21.2.5 has the artifacts and it does not matter which rc fixes it.

So we probably need our pinning in /etc/apt/preferences

for some more days until 21.3.0 is released and if that gets packaged quickly,
the problem should probably be gone soon.

Kind regards

thanks. I can confirm my issues are gone after upgrading to 21.3.0~rc5-1
from experimental.

Kind regards,
