Hi,

Looks like the plugin package, or gimp, is missing a dep on the gimp-
python package.

Dear Maintainer,

indeed, it seems resynthesize is currently broken, one cannot use the "Heal"
filters. That's a bummer, these filters are the only reason I have
gimp-plugin-registry installed to begin with.

Kind regards,
Ralf

Dear Maintainer,

I experienced this issue yesterday. Posted on reddit about it, where
someone suggested that installing gimp-python would fix the issue:

https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/bto0q0/gimp_heal_selection_filter_doesnt_show_even/ep1m53t/

Tried it, and it worked! Please add gimp-python as a dependency of
gimp-plugin-registry.

.oO(couldn’t you have Cc’d the submitter so I actually get the mail?)

Yes, gimp has a Suggests on gimp-python now, which fixes my problem.
The error message is very unhelpful, and ’net search finds this only
after multiple attempts, and there was no NEWS.Debian indicating that
one now needs to install another package (after the upgrade in sid),
but… hey… it works now.

Hi again,

the latest changelog for version 9.20200927 of this package says

"resynthesizer: ported to python3"

However, the resynthesizer still does not work after installing the package (the
menu entries simply do not appear). So one of the best features of Gimp is
broken for several years now. :(
I think the severity of this bug should be raised, since it makes the package
entirely useless -- at least for people that care about resynthesizer but none
of the other plugins.

Kind regards,
Ralf

Hello,

I confirm that the resynthesizer plugin is currently broken. It is not
available once installed.

I'm currently on Debian Testing :
gimp-plugin-registry 9.20200927+b1
gimp 2.10.30-1+b1

gimp-python is no longer available.

Is there a workaround?

Hi,

the version packaged in Debian seems to be the same that is offered for download
on the gimp website.

This seems to be an upstream problem: Gimp 3 will be required for Python 3
support, and Gimp 3 has been delayed ~forever -- Gimp 3 is the GTK 3 port, which
is not even done yet and meanwhile Gnome is already being ported to GTK 4!

Kind regards,
Ralf
