Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 46~beta-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: hen...@debian.org

Dear Maintainer,

Recently I've updated my Debian testing box and rebooted it, then I could not
input Japanese with IME (ibus + mozc) on some applications e.g. firefox-esr,
google-chrome, slack, etc.

After some investigations, I can input Japanese on Xorg session, instead of wayland.
However, it misses some input on Xorg, so it is not a solution for me. And after
more investigations, I've found that downgrade gnome-settings-daemon to 45.1-1
solves this problem.

Does this happen every time?

There should not have been any input related changes in
gnome-settings-daemon 46 Beta:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/compare/45.1...46.beta

Maybe something else changed on your system instead?

Thank you,

I've reproduced it with
https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/weekly-live-builds/amd64/iso-hybrid/debian-live-testing-amd64-gnome.iso

Yes, at least on my laptop for work (Debian testing).
Not depend on users, I've tested it on my laptop with two users,
and it happens for those two.

No, just downgrading gnome-settings-daemon (as below) solves this problem.

And here is reproduce step)

1. upgrade gnome-settings-daemon to 46~beta-1
2. logout from gnome
3. re-login (to use updated gnome-settings-daemon)
4. try to input Japanese on firefox-esr and could not do it
5. downgrade gnome-settings-daemon to 45.1-1
6. switch to second user
7. try to input Japanese on firefox-esr and it works
8. logout and switch back to first user
9. logout (first user) and re-login
10. try to input Japanese on firefox-esr and it works

I'm not sure how to debug it and get some logs...
