Dear Maintainer,
On a new, cheap Asus laptop ("Model X54L"), suspend to RAM does not work under some conditions. The
screen goes blank, except for a static cursor in the top left corner. The hard disk light stays on.
No further response can be elicited from the computer (caps lock does nothing, power button can only
switch off, impossible to ssh in).
Suspend (triggered by closing the lid) *does* work from console when X is not running and also from
the kdm prompt. If a KDE session is open, however, suspend hangs as described. I attach the
pm-suspend.log with verbose debugging information for this case. Gnome is no better at suspending.
Disabling KMS does not prevent the hang, although it then annoyingly occurs in the middle of the
goodbye sound from KDE, leaving that ringing for ever.
Blacklisting the ath and related modules does not prevent the hang; similarly for snd related
modules and for atl1c. Simply disabling networking and wireless in the networkmanager applet,
even across boots, does not help.
