Package: riseup-vpn
Version: 0.21.11+ds-3
Severity: minor

Hey,

first, i want to thank you for packaging riseup-vpn :)
much appreciated!!

i seem to be having exactly the same symptoms as described in this gentoo post :
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8714468.html

using lxpanel (w/ openbox), no icon is shown - just a blank place on screen where i can right click for options.
GUI seems "stuck" as continuously loading (but terminal/vpn seems connected...)
and there's this qml message on console :

qrc:/components/Splash.qml:155: Error: Invalid write to global property "testEn"

console output :

$ riseup-vpn --start-vpn on

Thank you, means a lot!

I am not acquianted with the gentoo ebuild system so I am not sure what the
workaround is that they implemented. I took a diff between original and workaround, and this
is the only noticeable difference I observe:

-inherit desktop python-single-r1 docs go-module virtualx toolchain-funcs xdg
+inherit desktop python-single-r1 docs go-module qmake-utils toolchain-funcs virtualx xdg

Seems some missing dep? Would you have some idea?

I tried on lxqt and i3wm both but somehow can't reproduce the said problem :/
There is a similar bug report upstream as well[1]
There is also a missing depend, as reported in this bug report[2]
and I am wondering if your problem could be related to that.

Just now I uploaded abother revision "0.21.11+ds-4" for riseup-vpn, fixing other bugs
and it should be there in testing soonish. I even
added a .desktop file in this release so it shows up in menu and no longer has to be cli-only :)
Could you consider trying on latest updated testing/unstable system?

Thanks for your bug report and I look forward to hear from you soonish.

developer..

no, this dependency was already installed, but symptoms and messages on
console remain the same :

about the missing icon could this be related to :
https://forum.qt.io/topic/133457/qsystemtrayicon-not-showing-on-certain-linux-distros

or
https://github.com/palinek/nm-tray/pull/56
??

hopefully one of those provides some hint, i don't have a single clue tbh.

i can see menu entry after updating package (using 0.21.11+ds1-1
currently), but everything else seems as before.. window seems "stuck"
at loading, and missing panel icon occupying space on panel, but not
appearing.

let me know, if i can send anymore info..

thanks,
d.

Hi Dmitris,

I did a new upload "0.21.11+ds1-2" which should fix this -- this was
a minor problem in upstream code itself; this upload should appear in a few
hours.

I have marked this bug as fixed for now, but please reopen/tell me to reopen
if you still see the problem.

Could you please try if it works fine for you now?

Looking forward to hear from you.
