Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?
Installing debian testing bookworm on a proxmox virtual machine, installing
mate-desktop and x2goserver, access the desktop via x2goclient from debian11
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
on the same infrastructure accessing a debian11 x2goserver works fine
from the same client. Running the desktop from within the proxmox
web gui works fine.
* What was the outcome of this action?
the desktop hangs and is unusable. The following errors can be
seen in the file .xsession-x2go-debiantesting-errors

after some more repetitions hundreds of lines per second with the

one can click on some parts, e.g. the menu, sometimes (not on the first try)
a terminal comes up but that has no window decoration and renders over the
main top panel.

a working desktop.

Hi,

thank you very much for confirming the problem.

I have also tried with the cinnamon desktop and this also failed to work
properly with (an updated) debian-testing. In addition i tried with a
linux mint release (21.1) and mate which worked fine.

which appear to be rather similar, with debian testing not working and
mint 21.1 working fine. Which upstream would it be? Might it not be
related to something in debian testing?

I can try different things with logs in both environments and can
install something on both and break both, if instructed and if it
may be helpful for a maintainer.

As of 29.4. none of the desktop environments work out of the box. When chosing
window managers, such as marco, that have compoisiting enabled, things are bad.
There are big black bars around the windows (not an issue) when activiating
comppsition and all feels very bad. The Desktop-Environments mate, cinnaom
do not work at all, lxqt has unusable bars. Xfce starts, but again with
horrible black bars, and feels extremly sluggish. There are many redrawing artefacts
making all desktops unreadable. When deactivating the compositing, things improve but
only for xfce it results in a somehow workable state. The bars disappear and there are
close to none redrawing artefacts left. Xfce feels very slow but almost usable. All
other evnironments not so much.

Somehow there is still something wrong deep in the X-stuff? No opengl for
even the lightest desktop candy?

The following errors still appear in .xsession-x2go...errors.
