Bug#869148: digikam cannot import photos from iphone

Dear Maintainer,

I am trying to import my photos from my iphone to my desktop. I plug the
iphone into the USB port and I see KDE recognizing and asking if I want
digikam in import. I click on the digikam icon and it the app launches.
After launch I recieve an error say the device is not recognized. I will
be attaching a screenshot of the error.

Does import work when you start digiKam yourself and then use the
"Import" menu in the taskbar?

Digikam sees the iphone as an auto-detected device and a ptp device. When I try to import from either is says "Failed to connect to camera".

I feel like something like this came up in the upstream bugtracker, but
can't get a hold of it. Can you try if this is still a problem with the
5.6.0 appimage: https://www.digikam.org/download/

What kind of iPhone is it?

I see a similar report against OpenSUSE for iPhone 6S that shows the same

Hi,

Triaging some digikam bug reports. Steve has uploded digikam 6.4.0 to Debian
sid, having a lot of fixes for different stuff. I do not own an IPhone, so I
cannot test that myself, but we would appreciate if you could test that
version and tell us if problem persists.
