Hi,
The LoongArch architecture is an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that has Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) style. Loongarch64 is LoongArch 64 bits little-endian.
Loong64 (abbreviation of loongarch64) is dpkg architecture, based on Debian community recommendations.
We need to apply for a mailing list for the loongarch architecture to communicate and archive userstags bugs.

The following information is required:
-Name
debian-loongarch

-Short description
Discussion on the LoongArch port(s) for Debian GNU/Linux.

-Long description
Discussions on the LoongArch port(s) for Debian GNU/Linux.

Related Information:
IRC channel is #debian-loongarch,which is been used for communication.

Followup-For: Bug #1023585

Dear Maintainer,

I thought the upstream support for loong64 is well and it is in suitable
situation to port it on Debian. They almost finished the rebootstrap and
to wait to be added into buildd.d.o. IIMC. If the debian-loongarch mail
list was created will push the procedure.

TBH I am not a real user/developer as RISC-V porter but I can offer my
help if I can in feature.

Dear Maintainer:

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day

I have been following the progress of Ioongarch ports on Debian. With the continuous increase of support for Loongarch upstream in the community (Linux, Binutils, and GCC...), I run rebootstrap every month to build Loongarch64 lp64d packages. Bootstrap is now ready to install and run, and some basic software packages are ported based on this base.

I personally hope to use various software packages provided by Debian on the Loongarch architecture!

Dear Maintainer:

Thanks in advance for reading.

I'm a student user of loongson machines and caring the progress of
loong64 ports on Debian. They work really hard for it, and rebootstrap
has been almost finished. The creation of debian-loongarch mailing list
will push the progress of including loongarch architecture in Debian
upstream and benefit all loongarch users and developers.

Best regards,

Dear Maintainer,
I'm a developer of loongarch. I am very supportive of Longson's
construction in the community and hope to support more basic components.
Hope the Longson is getting stronger and stronger.

Thanks for reading.

I hope that loongarch64 can recive more support from Debian community and seting up a special mail list is a good idea.

Hi,

While I'm not as closely involved in the Debian loong64 port as some
others do (I primarily work upstream, and Gentoo when I'm packaging;
after all I'm primarily a Gentoo dev), I personally agree that creation
of a debian-loongarch mailing list will help communication in many ways.
The Linux/LoongArch mailing list (loon...@lists.linux.dev) currently
has 44 subscribers, as can be checked on the lists.linux.dev site, and
IMO it's only because talking there requires one to speak English;
similar user and/or dev groups on WeChat easily reach hundreds of
members. I expect a similar number of interested parties would subscribe
here after the list is created.

Which brings my next question: do we want to allow Chinese in this list
(people can be asked to write bilingual mails and translate/clarify if
necessary), or do we want to create a parallel debian-loongarch-zh list
for that?

Per the Debian mailing list CoC [1], the language to use is English
unless explicitly allowed otherwise. But I fear that if people are
forced to speak English, a majority of them would simply go away and
create an equivalent WeChat group and just continue there. In order for
the list to serve as the new go-to venue for coordination and
communication around the port, and not get ignored, I think allowing at
least bilingual mails (when the author is not confident enough that
their English expression wouldn't create confusion / misunderstanding)
is necessary.

As a matter of fact, even most contributors to this port do the above;
FWIW, they mostly only appear on official Debian services (bugs, wiki,
irc) because other DDs have to be involved, and all other coordination
happen in a WeChat group (that I also got invited into, so I know). IMO
creation of such an open list *should* mean substantially decreasing
private discussions like this, and we probably want to facilitate that,
so people don't have to first go learn technical English for a half year
before starting to participate and contribute, and valuable discussions
don't get permanently buried in someone's private chat history.

Dear Maintainer,

Thank you for your attention.

I am a computer science student and a user of loongson devices.
The loong64 architecture server is one of my primary development devices
that I rely on daily.
Currently, I am utilizing an operating system ported to loong64 by the
open-source community,
which is based on Debian.

I am highly interested in the integration of the loong64 architecture
into Debian upstream.
This integration would greatly facilitate the development and porting of
programs for the loongson platform,
allowing loong64 to be treated as a general architecture rather than an
exception.

Best regards,

Katyusha

I'm a developer of loongarchLoongarch already has an ISO release based on Debian, which is very user-friendly and smooth. I hope to use various software packages provided by Debian on the Loongarch architecture to let more people know about the breadth of Debian

Dear Maintainer:

Thank you for reading, Have a nice day.
I'm a 10-year Debian user, and Debian is so stable, and supports multiple architectures。As a hobbyist, I currently have a Loongson-3A5000 machine running loongnix which derived from debian 10, I feels very convenient. I've also been following loongarch's debian port progress . I really very much hope you can help open the mailing list, thank you!

Hi,

As I am interested in doing SIMD work on the Loongaarch64 ISA and I now have actual working hardware: Loongson 7a2000 3a5000 board.

I think having a list for the new port is a good thing, I second the proposal.
