Package: flatpak
Version: 1.8.2-3
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: riverava...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

after discovering that the flathub Scribus app doesn't find the whole of the system installed fonts I informed about there:

https://github.com/flathub/net.scribus.Scribus/issues/21

Following advice I tested it with AbiWord and found the same issue (which seems as a flatpak issue, therefor this report).

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?

Essentially I created a file with AbiWord/Scribus (debian repositories packages) and applied a specific font to a text and saved. Now, opening those files with AbiWord/Scribus (flatpak apps) results in the program not finding the font.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

That flatpak has access to all installed fonts.

Thanks a lot, let me know if I can give any useful info.

Best regards!

These are completely unrelated, other than that both mention
Flatpak. Please don't repurpose existing bug reports for unrelated issues,
it makes it really hard to keep track of which bugs have been fixed and
which have not.

I'll reply to the cloned bug when the bug tracking system has given it
a separate bug number.

This looks like there is a problem with dependencies: flatpak finds
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0, but libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 is finding an outdated
version of libgio-2.0.so.0 (part of GLib).

One common reason why this can happen is if you have a version of GLib
in /usr/local/lib, but it is older than the version that is required by
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.

Debian 11 includes GLib 2.66.8-1 and gdk-pixbuf 2.42.2+dfsg-1. Any
locally-installed version older than those is going to cause problems.

If you don't have the required packages installed, then flatpak will not
work, and that's not a bug.

Or, if you do have the required packages installed, but they're not being
reported here, then that's a bug in whatever bug-reporting tool you're
using. (In particular, if it's reportbug-ng, please use reportbug instead.)

How did you manage to install flatpak 1.10.7-0+deb11u1 without also
installing the libraries that it depends on?
libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0?

This indicates that programs on your system are still finding an outdated
copy of libgio-2.0.so.0.

This is a third-party package (possibly an unofficial backport from
Debian testing/unstable) and is not supported by Debian.

I tried to remove flatpak and it was not found. Hence no installation of
related libraries. The upgrade from 9 to 10 to 11 may have caused this
error to creep in.

I then installed flatpak OK with font errors:

It originally was Debian 8 which used backports then was upgraded to
Debian 9 then 10 then 11. Errors only occurred last week when I upgraded
from 9 to 10 then 11.
