Version: 1:1.44.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,
with the release of bullseye we've the in kernel exFAT driver available.
If possible please remove the dependency on exfat-fuse and change from
exfat-utils to exfatprogs for the filesystem utilities. That would enable
us to drop the fuse driver soon.

If you make extensive use of special parameters of the filesystem utilities
there might be changes required. exfatprogs is a codebase created by Samsung while
exfat-utils was a completely independend implementation by another developer.

Regards,
Sven

If not a switchover to the Samsung-written tools outright, perhaps an | dependency?

Hi,
I've created a PR to migrate to exfatprogs now. I would really like to get rid
of at least exfat-utils soon.

https://salsa.debian.org/libvirt-team/libguestfs/-/merge_requests/1

Joseph, since I would like to remove exfat-fuse and exfat-utils from Debian
I see no point in making them an alternative. If someone needs it for a backport
he should add it only for the backport. But opinions might differ on that one.

Cheers,
Sven

Hi,
can I do anything to help to get this issue resolved?
It seems that the conflict I created between exfat-utils
and exfatprogs hurts in more situation than I expected.

My plan is to remove the exfat-utils package, but that
would render libguestfs uninstallable, so I'm holding the
removal back for now.

Would love to move on with this change and finally get
rid of exfat-utils.

Regards,
Sven

Sven,

sorry for taking so long to answer.

Since I just realized that exfatprogs is a drop-in replacement (as long
as the kernel supports exfat) and that there's no exfat-fuse specific
code in libguestfs, I'm going to do an upload of 1:146.2-2.
Unfortunately we'll have to wait for that to clear NEW, but htat should
not take more than a few days.

Cheers,
-Hilko
