Looking through journalctl, I was able to find out where the system was getting stuck.

Mar XX XX:XX:XX XXXXXX kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: enabling device (0006 -> 0007)

Would hang here, and be forced to hard reboot. This was shortly after

makes me think it is a race condition? I am not an expert so I don't really know if that is the right term. Hope this helps!
