Package: task-lxqt-desktop
Severity: normal

A default installation of lxqt does not include an applet for network
management. If the installation was done using a temporary Ethernet connection
and the user now needs to set up WiFi, which is a common scenario for Debian
installations, there's no front-end for that. A quick search for semi-novice
users usually directs them to wicd, which does not exist in testing or sid.

Similarly, there's no applet for setting up Bluetooth connections.

Manually installing nm-tray and blueman greatly enhances the usability of
lxqt, but they should be installed by default.

Installing nm-tray adds 13 packages in summary, 22 MB in size (while the whole
installed lxqt system has 4,4 GB here).
I guess that's worth it.

However, I don't consider adding a bluetooth applet as needed.
People can always install things, if network connection is working ;-)

CC'ing lxqt people via pkg-lxq...@lists.alioth.debian.org.
I will add nm-tray to task-lxqt-desktop, if noone objects...

Hi,

You should have cmst (connman) installed. Works for bluetooth too.

> I will add nm-tray to task-lxqt-desktop, if noone objects...

task-lxqt-desktop already depends on lxqt metapackage which recommends
cmst (connman) or nm-tray or network-manager-gnome or plasma-nm [or wicd].

Hi,

thanks for looking into this.

Hmm, yes, cmst gets installed, when doing a installation and selecting the
lxqt-task-desktop task.
However, I see no "network-manager applet" - or whatever you call it - in the tray.
And in the "Configure Panel" dialog I also see no widget, that could be added for
network-manager or similar.

So, what to do here?
Any help for debugging?
Test installation was with bullseye-alpha3 d-i image.

So, nm-tray does not get installed automatically. That's ok, since cmst is
installed instead.

Control: reassign -1 lxqt
Control: retitle -1 cmst/connman system-tray applet: please start automatically when installed
thanks

Ok, I found that cmst is not started automatically, even when installed.
You can start it manually and then click 'Minimize' to sent it to the tray
(it's named 'Connman UI Setup' in the 'Internet' menu).

Maybe it should be automatically added to the 'Autostart' list of
'Session Settings'?
Users might not be aware of, that they have to start it by hand, since other
system tray widgets *are*automatically*started*, when installed.

I have manually added it to Autostart as 'cmst -m -w 6' command.
Works fine that way.

Retitle and reassign to lxqt.

Thanks

Hi,

you also can set it in cmst: Preferences - Program Control - [X] Enable Autostart

This will add 'cmst -w 5' to autostart.

Package: lxqt
Version: 30
Followup-For: Bug #975524

IMO cmst should have an desktop entry in /etc/xdg/autostart/ so that it
is autostarted upon installation.

Should we move this bug to cmst?

Hi,

yes, /etc/xdg/autostart/cmst.desktop should solve it for lxqt and lxde:

Control: reassign -1 cmst

Hi,

lxde uses connman-gtk not cmst. Sorry, my mistake.

Cheers,
Amy
