I just learned on #matroska IRC a couple of things:
- - version 71.0.0 requires libebml 2.0.0, which isn't released yet
- - version 71.1.0 has been released earlier today to address that and to
requires libebml 1.4.4, which was released yesterday but isn't
packaged for Debian yet (https://bugs.debian.org/1021486)
- - when the needed system-level libraries aren't available or not at the
required version, the ``configure`` script will fall back to the
embedded copy.

So I have to assume that the recently released version 71.0.0 must use
an embedded copy of libebml.
