The reason being that we would rather not add any more mirrors not
available on the standard /debian/ path.
Can you add an alias?

Hi,

Due to the way our mirror box is setup, such a change is not easy and may cause other issues.

It might be worth changing the wording at https://www.debian.org/mirror/submit in that case instead of saying "strongly recommend", make the field non-editable and put wording that it must be used as locking a form to a specific directory name but then only putting strongly recommend seem at odds with each other. The wording implying choice, the form not giving it.

https://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror also makes the comment that it is recommended but not compulsory.

As users are likely to get the list via apt feeds, it should largely be a non-issue, no?

Users usually change mirrors by editing their sources.list file. Thus,
just having to change only the hostname is a clear win.
