Package: neovim
Version: 0.7.2-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

Since Neovim 0.7 there's this issue at start:

vim/_init_packages.lua: cannot load incompatible bytecode
stack traceback:
[C]: at 0x55d396491750
[C]: at 0x7f0e8df71400
E970: Failed to initialize builtin lua modules

... and nvim can't start.

Apparently this is upstream's issue:
https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/18169

Best regards,

Xav

Package: neovim
Version: 0.7.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #1014160

Same issue for me with neovim-0.7.2-1 package from unstable installed on Debian
testing/amd64 :

$ nvim
vim/_init_packages.lua: cannot load incompatible bytecode
stack traceback:
(...)

Moreover, I compiled local Debian packages for version 0.7.2-1 from Git sources
(https://salsa.debian.org/vim-team/neovim) and I have not this issue after
installing it.

regards, Laurent

Your libluajit-5.2-1 package is out of date. If you upgrade to the
version in unstable, does the problem go away?
