Bug#656259: Unable to mount Samsung SE208AB external USB DVD burner/reader

Linux (ver. 2.6.32-5-686) will not recognize a Samsung SE208AB external USB DVD burner/reader

 

I have captured the contents of syslog when I plug in the USB cable in the USB port of the PC (Shuttle XS35GT w. Intel Atom D520 & 4 GB RAM):

Apparently the kernel module cdrom.ko entcounters an error with an unknown symbol "scsi_cmd_blk_ioctl".
