Package: nfs-kernel-server
Version: 1:2.6.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Please add a NEWS item to inform users that the support for NFSv2 is gone.

The fact that the support for NFSv2 has been silently dropped in the
latest NFS server caught me by surprise, as I have a legacy client that
only supports NFS version 2.

Thanks!

I see the following in /etc/nfs.conf in the [nfsd] section:
# vers2=n

vers3 and higher all have '=y', so maybe it's only disabled by default?

Hi Diederik, unfortunately NFSv2 has been removed in the upstream.
Here is the relevant patch I found on the linux-nfs mailing list:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-nfs/msg87549.html

That was 'just' a RFC patch, but in
http://git.linux-nfs.org/?p=steved/nfs-utils.git;a=commit;h=2c2c36c59fa1de2ff7fd28917e54700ecb39b730
it is actually removed and that commit is part of the 2.6.1 release ... so I
would've expected that "# vers2=n" was not present in Debian's 2.6.1-1 release.
Even more given the commit is present in the salsa's repo:
https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/nfs-utils/-/commit/2c2c36c59fa1de2ff7fd28917e54700ecb39b730

So yeah, you are right. But I do see the "# vers2=n" part on an arm64 device
and also on the amd64 machine I'm typing this on.
