papd no longer prints

We've been using papd successfully for over a year driving an old
donated HP LaserJet IIP from our RH 6.1 system. After some minor
changes to activate afpd (AppleTalk File Sharing), which we've never
used up to this point, the papd printing no longer works. The messages
in /var/log/messages indicate the print job is received and queued (the
famous "lp_print queued" message appears) but nothing ever arrives in
the print queue. The "papstatus -p LaserJet" command reports "lp is
active and printing" but, alas, nothing IS printing.

We've tried backing out the minor changes to activate afpd but papd
still won't print. We're considering the drastic "uninstall/reinstall"
cure as a last ditch effort. Any ideas?
