I certainly can't help you,
as I've only just started using netatalk (1.6.2).

But I don't get offered any login --
my Linux home directory appears on the Mac,
and I'm able to transfer files in either direction without problem,
which is actually what I want to do.

But how _would_ one login on the Mac?
I mean, what program would one use?

As far as I can see, there is no documentation that tells you
what exactly netatalk is meant to do.
The HOWTO tells you how to compile and install it,
but that's all.

For example, is there any way of accessing the Mac _from_ Linux,
rather than the other way round?

I was hoping that when I loaded the hfs module
it would somehow allow me to mount my Macintosh partition.
Was that wishful thinking?
