I have Linux Mandrake 7.2 and netatalk-1.4.99-0.20000927mdk installed. I
also was trying netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.3-6, but it is the same problem:

When I try to start atalk, I get the following error message:
("Das Argument ist ungültig" means "The argument is invalid")

[root@thor init.d]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/atalk start
Starting AppleTalk services: socket: Das Argument ist ungültig
socket: Das Argument ist ungültig
atalkd: can't get interfaces, exiting.

What is going wrong?

Please give me some help! Thanks a lot!!

I got similar errors until I forced a line in the /etc/atalk/config file,
it reads
ATALK_NAME=`echo ${HOSTNAME}|cut -d. -f1`

I just put a forced line below it so that my name would work
ATALK_NAME="TX5Linux"
