Do you refer to Suse 7.3 or Red Hat 7.3 or Mandrake or .... ?

If you run quite a recent version of Linux kernel > 2.4.12
you may want to give a try at Tom Eastep's Shorewall
(http://www.shorewall.net).

It has no GUI. You will have to edit a few conf files, but
you will be up and running in less than 20 minutes if you are
acquainted with firewalls principles. It is free.

Moreover, documentation and mailing list are great.

Are you trying to set up a firewall server? If so you may want to take a
look at SmoothWall.
