how to build an linux image for A31S

I want to use debian or linaro on A31s, but i don't know how to get one, and it seems that the forum only support A10, A20, and A80,

I am realy appreciated if you can provide any suggestion, thank you.

First of all, you can check if your device already has a page at
the linux-sunxi wiki:
http://linux-sunxi.org/Category:Devices

If yes, then you can find further instructions there and more details
about the mainline u-boot and the mainline kernel support for it. The
core A31s SoC features are already supported, but different devices
may have different configurations for the peripherals.

If there is no device page for your device, then you are encouraged
to create one. There is a basic instruction and a checklist for the

For installing Debian on a few supported Allwinner devices, you

Which means that you may need to be ready to compile the u-boot

Some A31(s) devices are already supported. But A80 is not quite at
that level yet.

Thank you very much for your help, I think i have to compile the u-boot bootloader and the kernel by myself.

but it seems that https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi dosen't have branch for A31S.

https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi is  3.4 linux kernel, I think that there isn't a a31s support in this branch, only mainline and uboot mainline or
linux-sunxi-next that is the dev branch supports a31 or a31s, I think.

as said, if you search at wiki and your device isn't here it would be great to create a wiki page for your device and fill useful information ,
as other people or devs  then can check your device and is more easy to know what missing or for future people who are searching for the same,
and if you mess anything in future you can recover your fex configuration file from the repos, or it could be more easy to convert your fex to dts for use in mainline kernels.

Hi Stone
I don't think you'll have any chance of getting anything other than VidOn's
firmware onto this device without doing some serious hardware modifications.
There is no sdcard to boot from or OTG to get the device into fel mode.
I have this hardware and I'm still trying to find a way to get it to boot into
fel mode. For now only serial debug is possible.

I've tried connecting just a USB-A<->USB-A to the board to see if it
powers up but
it didn't and as I'm quite keen to keep this for now as an Android box
I didn't investigate
any further.
I do have a USB-A cable somewhere that just has the data lines
connected so I can
try with this and the unit's PSU.

Just to update, I can get the board into fel mode by pressing '2' on
powerup but I can't seem to detect the fel device on the usb.

I know that this thread is old but I'll take a chance.

I have an old VidOn Box that is collecting dust in my closet.

I want to use it again and install linux and wipe completely Android.

I was able to root my box a while ago and it is still rooted. Does it have any values since its rooted if you need info on how to enable FEL mode?

I don't have many spare time but I'm willing to help.

Hi Philippe,
this is on my todo lists to play with(but close to the bottom)....I
think the easiest thing to do would be to solder a sdcard holder onto
the exposed PCB mounts and boot from that. If you can get it into FEL
mode using the uart connection then that would be a start.
